VALNOW is the Virtual Academic Library of the North West. It allows you to order available books and journal articles from the University Library. This service is available to all HE UCLan students studying at Wigan and Leigh College.
Requesting an item
You are able to make unlimited VALNOW requests throughout the academic year and are able to borrow upto 18 items at any one time. Wigan and Leigh College will subsidise your first 12 items any additional items will be charged at £2.50 each.
Before you use this service you must check the Wigan and Leigh College Library Catalogue to make sure that the items aren't stocked at any of our sites. You must also check both Wigan and Leigh college and the UCLAN Library Catalogue to make sure that the item isn't available as an e-resource. If you are still unable to locate the item you may then proceed to request the item via VALNOW by selecting the relevant 'VALNOW Request' link below.
Alternatively you can ask a member of the Colleges Learning Resources team to make the request on your behalf. Once the item is available it will be posted out to your requested Learning Resources Centre.
Receiving your items
Once your items are available they will be sent to the library that you specified when making the request. On arrival a notification will be sent to your College email address.
Loan periods
The initial loan period will be 3 weeks (including delivery time). After the initial loan period if no other requests have been made for the item it will automatically renewed for a maximum of 26 weeks, providing no other student requests the items. If a request is placed on the item during this time frame you will receive an email to your Wigan & Leigh College email address asking you to return the item.
Returns
All items must be returned to your College Library by their due back date. Please do not return VALNOW loans to the UCLan Library.
