Introduction

There are numerous methods of referencing. The majority of students at Wigan and Leigh College are expected to use the Harvard method. However, some students may be required to use either the APA method, the IEEE method or Vancouver. Your tutor will instruct you as to which method to use.

When you reference your work it is important that you use the correct method and that you access the relevant guide for support. You will notice that the menu across the top of this page contains links to the main guides that support these methods.

This introductory guide provides important general information that is applicable to all forms of referencing. ​You should fully familiarise yourself with the information contained in this guide before you attempt to make use of the examples in the main guides.
