Social media includes communication platforms such as:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • X (Twitter)
  • LinkedIn
  • Online Forums

Social Media platforms have come to play a prominent part in many of our lives, and at some point you may wish to use a piece of information that you have read on a social media platform to support your studies.

Clearly, comments posted to a social media platform will not have the same level of authenticity as say, a piece on information in a published text book and so in many ways it is advisable that where possible, you should make use of properly published sources of information such as journals and text books to support you academic work rather than social media.

Nevertheless, there are times when social media can be particularly useful. For example,  if you are evaluating the reaction of spectators to an performance, or, the reaction of the population to a new government policy.
