The American Psychological Association (APA)
The American Psychological Association (APA) was founded in July 1892 (at Clark University, Massachusetts) by a small group of men who were interested in what they called “the new psychology.” The group elected a total of 31 individuals as members.
The organisation has grown rapidly, and today it claims to be "the leading scientific and professional organisation representing psychology in the United States, with more than 118,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students as its members".
The stated mission of the organisation is "to promote the advancement, communication, and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives".
