Short Quotation (less than 40 words)

 

  • Place the quotation in your text and enclose it in double quotes " ".
  • Include a citation for the quote in the same sentence as the quote.
  • A parenthetical citation should be placed either immediately after the quote or at the end of your sentence.
  • For a narrative citation, include the author surname, and year of publication in your narrative before the quotation, and then place the page number(s) in parentheses after the quotation.

Parenthetical citation

Children should be encouraged to take part in physical activities as there is  clear evidence that "a sedentary lifestyle, combined with an unbalanced diet, is a recipe for poor health: physically, emotionally and intellectually" (Lindon, 2012, p. 101).

 

 

Narrative citation

Children should be encouraged to take part in physical activities. Lindon (2012) states that "a sedentary lifestyle, combined with an unbalanced diet, is a recipe for poor health: physically, emotionally and intellectually" (p. 101).
