Periodic literature includes:

  • Journals
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Newsletters
  • Blog Post

Periodicals are typically published and referenced by volume and issue number:

  • Volume typically refers to the number of years that the publication has been circulated,
  • The Issue Number refers to how many times the periodical has been published during the year.

So, for example, the March publication of a monthly journal that is currently in its fifth year of circulation will have Volume = 5,  Issue Number = 3.
