The Computer Network

All of the computers in the LR Centres are connected to the college network.

They provide you with access to:

• The Internet
• Software applications such as Microsoft Office.
• The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
• Your college email
• Online resources such as eBooks and eDatabases
• The Library Catalogue
• A personal secure storage area for your work (Your ‘W’ drive)
• MyPC computer reservation program
• Printing facilities

‘Logging On’ to the Network

When you wish to use one of the computers, you will need to enter your network username and password.

Your username is printed on your college card.  It looks something like this: U10123456.

At the start of your course your password will probably be set to your date of birth in an 8-digit numeric format (i.e. ddmmyyyy).  You may change your password at any time.

Should you forget your password please contact a member of the LR team.

Logging off

Please make sure that you properly save your work and log off the network at the end of your session.

Auto Power-Down

The computers in the LR Centres will automatically power-down ten minute before the Centres are scheduled to close. It is very important that your work is saved to disk prior to the power-down.
